I have wanted to learn suturing for while now for two reasons. First, I just find it fascinating given that the “sewing” methods used are extremely interesting coupled with the properties of skin and variety suture threads. Second, I have always thought it might be a useful skill considering the remote location of where we live and dangers inherent in wilderness activities like hunting, camping and fishing. Luckily I have a fellow ex-Army buddy medic who agreed to teach me, which is why I got this kit. I was quite impressed by the quality of this kit. The case is made with a decent faux leather, with good stitching and a strong zipper. All of the necessary tools and consumables. The instruments include hegar needle holder, iris scissors, mosquito forceps, scalpel handle, adson forceps and five #11 scalpel blades in foil. All of the instruments have a substantial, high-grade look and feel. The kit also has a nice variety of sutures and a practice pad. The sutures themselves came very well organized in the box by size then type. One each of 5/0 and 3/0, then three each of 4/0 in braided silk, nylon monofilament, braided polyester and polypropylene monofilament. My friend said that it’s a great selection for practicing. The pad also seems to do a decent job of mimicking various typical wound patterns with a reasonable approximation of skin. All things considered, I am quite impressed by this kit and look forward to tons of practical training with it.

I'm a retired EMT and former combat medic, and I picked up this suture practice kit mainly to brush up on skills I haven't used in a while. For what it is, it does a solid job. The silicone pad surprised me—it has a realistic feel, not exactly like skin, but close enough to make the muscle memory kick back in. The variety of pre-cut wounds gives you options to practice different closure techniques, and the tools included are serviceable. I plan to keep this kit packed with our gear when we’re doing extended campouts at Padre Island National Seashore. It’s not for treating real injuries, obviously, but it’s a good refresher and might come in handy for teaching or quick drills during downtime. For anyone who used to suture in the field and wants to stay sharp, it gets the job done.

Made and put together very well. Designed well. All of the tools and needles function well. Compact and fits in a bag very well. Great price

I got this because you never know when you'll be in a situation where you'll need it, plus it just seems like an important skillset. Several possible real world cuts are represented for practice on the "skin" with lots of monofilament, and five needles. Will this improve my sewing or cross stitching skills? probably not, but in an emergency I might be able to come through.

This suture kit is the med student’s version of a gym membership; it won’t make you a surgeon overnight, but it gives you everything you need to get those reps in. The silicone pad feels impressively realistic, with varied wound shapes that mimic actual scenarios, and the mesh layer keeps it from tearing mid-practice. The thread variety is a nice touch, and the instruments are decent quality for training purposes; not OR-grade, but solid for learning. Pros: 14 pre-cut wounds = multiple practice styles in one pad Comes with 20 threads in 4 different materials; great for skill-building Protective mesh keeps the pad from falling apart after a few uses Cons: Tools are training-grade—functional but not pro-level Blades are sharp, but handle feels a bit light

I am a first-year medical student and I found this product to be top of the range - I am extremely satisfied. I have had this product for about 2 weeks now and I am already quite confident in my basic suturing skills. The package includes an eBook and video lessons on suturing techniques. All of which are professional and helpful. The silicon skin is durable and allows me to practise suturing on the same wound over and over. The instruments are high quality too. Highly recommended!

Very nice suture practice kit. I got this for my family to get a little experience at this in case needed in an emergency situation. I like that the materials are individually sealed. Its not easy to see from the pics but there is packets that have a pre-threaded needle in each one. I don't know that these were sterilized and good for use on real cuts on people, but at the least its practice and at the worst, its cleaner that something that has been in the dirt.

I keep some sutures and staple gun in my larger medical emergency bag just in case. They expire like most things and while I was looking to replace the sutures in my kit I realized it’s been well over a decade since I tried practicing with them. I thought it would be a good time to maybe get some replacement sutures and something to practice on at the same time. I opened my search up on Amazon and was surprised to see the variety out there. After looking at several I chose to go with this kit since it came with 20 different sutures, the silicone practice wounds. I think what really tipped this kit for me though was it included all new basic supplies like tweezers, scalpels and forceps. This helps augment the existing kit I have as well as brings those perishable items inside the expiration date. I think the only thing this didn’t have that would have been nice even though I knew it would now come with it was some basic suture instructions. Now I know this information is quite readily available on the interwebs but it’s nice to have some quick notes with the supplies in the event of an emergency. Practicing was very eye opening as it showed me how out of practice I really was (not that I guess I was ever good at all). I guess in a pinch if i ever did need to use this there is always the easy to remember over under. It only has to hold long enough to get to someone who knows what they are doing.
